Kelsey Phinney And The Anne Gini Elite Skier Fund

The board of directors of The Boulder Nordic Club has named Kelsey Phinney as the inaugural recipient of the newly established Anne Gini Elite Skier Fund.  $1000 of matching funds have been allotted by the board to incentivize community support for Kelsey.
Kelsey’s invitation from the U.S. Ski Team to the first period of the World Cup this coming season is unfunded.  The Anne Gini Elite Skier Fund is intended to simultaneously support Kelsey and to honor Anne Gini and her family’s contributions to nordic skiing around Boulder.Kelsey is the first female skier from the nordic ski community in Boulder to reach the World Cup.  Her minimum expenses will be about $5000.  She adds “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to race multiple World Cup weekends to start this year’s race season. This is the culmination of many years of work and support coming together, and it is a giant stepping stone towards my goals of making future World Championship and Olympic teams. I am so proud to get to represent Team USA and the Boulder Nordic community!”

A lifelong skier, Anne Gini was a founder of the BNC and former board president.  She skis in the best and worst of conditions with equanimity.  She treats every skier around her as a friend or with respect.  She gave a profound love of skiing to her children and her grandchildren.

Board President Joel Kimmel states, “The board of the BNC was excited to hear about Kelsey’s invitation from the US ski team and unanimously supported the idea of this matching campaign.    We know that our member community will be cheering for Kelsey this season, and this fundraiser is a chance for us all to let her know how proud we are to have a hometown skiing for the U.S.”

The idea for naming the fund came from former board president Mark Flolid.  Flolid then shared the idea with board member Matt Muir.

Muir adds “it’s my opinion that the board would have liked to post more than $1000 to the matching fund but after two weak winters, the board is obligated to protect its treasury and core services to its members.  The matching fund gives the community the opportunity to assist in funding Kelsey.”

Kelsey is a discretionary member and will join full U.S. Ski Team members Jesse Diggins, Sadie Bjornsen, Ida Sargent, Sophie Caldwell, and Aspen’s Simi Hamilton.  A complete listing is here.
