Thanks to the National Winter Sports Education Foundation and to the Boulder Nordic Junior Race Team , the Boulder Nordic Club has been able to support a “Nordic Rocks!” grant to local schools. The NWSEF grant puts thirty pairs of easy to use cross-country skis in each of about five local elementary schools including Nederland, Bear Creek, University Hill, Flatirons, and Columbine Elementary schools.
The grant provides a stipend to a BNJRT coach in order to administer and support physical education teachers in the schools. The result will be students using the skis on school grounds on snowy days during P.E. class.
The NWSEF supplied the skis. BNJRT Coach Adam St. Pierre and Coach Megan Cornwall led the successful application to and implementation of the program. The BNC’s board allotted funding to pay for shipping the skis and simple storage for the skis at each school. Thanks also to Boulder Nordic Sport for integrating the shipping into its operations and, thus, reducing shipping costs and complications.
Membership and donations to the BNC directly supports programs such as this. Thank you for supporting the BNC.
Thanks also to Bianca Gallegos, Ina Rodriguez-Myer, Brad Fink, James Soole, Kent Cruger, and Laurel Reckert of the Boulder Valley School District for their enthusiastic and early support of this program.
